2018 Credit Union Art Competition

Become a force to be reckoned with by entering this year’s Art Competition

We are urging the Lurgan area to become a force to be reckoned with for the 2018 All Ireland Art Competition!  The theme this year is “The Force of Nature” and has been designed in an effort to get participants “thinking green” by depicting their visions of a clean pollution and litter free environment.  Winners at local level will go on to regional level, and regional winners will progress to the national awards ceremony in Croke Park.

As one of the organisations at the very heart of the Lurgan community, Lurgan Credit Union is committed to supporting the improvement and enhancement of the area.  The “Force of Nature” theme has been crafted to encourage people to get thinking about the impact the local environment has on the community, and the vital importance of protecting it.  Entrants are given full scope to express their thoughts, visions and hopes about their local or global environment.

The hugely popular, national art competition is now in its 35th year.  Each year almost 30,000 people enter the competition through more than 200 participating credit unions.  The competition has no age limits and is open to children aged 7 years and under right through to 18 years and over.  There is also a category for those with physical or intellectual difficulties.

Lurgan Credit Union expects to be inundated with fantastic works of art from all ages, especially with the eco-friendly theme which challenges participants t reflect on the power and beauty of the natural world around them, encouraging a “thinking green mindset”

As always there will be some great prizes up for grabs, so we would encourage everyone to spend some time thinking about the importance of your local community environment and how to express these thoughts as work of art.

The annual competition is part of the Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU) commitment to supporting the artistic development of both young and old in communities throughout Ireland.  Producing and creating art can have many benefits for adults, such as reducing stress and aiding development of creative problem-solving skills.  For children, painting and creating art can nurture fine-motor skills and neural development, while allowing them to express their emotions.

Lurgan Credit Union have had success in recent years in both the regional and national level. All entries going through at national level have their entries on display at the Credit Unions AGM, and will be seen by delegates from all over Ireland. The winners at national level also have their entry printed in the credit unions calendar. Click onto http://lurgancu.com/events-page/ to have a look at the previous winners.

Entry forms have been posted to all local primary and post primary schools in our common bond area, and are also available from our office.

The closing date for entries is Friday 26th October 2018 at 5.00 p.m.
