Common Bond

The common bond is the element which binds every member of a Credit Union together e.g. those living or working in the same area may join a Credit Union. This defined field of membership is the glue that binds the members together. It is essentially people ‘doing it for themselves’ and demonstrates effectively how a Credit Union is a Credit Co-operative with members working together to achieve a better life for themselves.

The criteria for having a common bond are not necessarily geographical although most Credit Unions in Ireland are community focused. It is possible to have a common bond if you are in a particular occupation like a teacher e.g. the ASTI Credit Union.

In Lurgan Credit Union Limited our common bond exists within the Lurgan and surrounding area, taking in the parishes of Shankill, Aghagallon, Seagoe, Magheralin and Moyraverty.  This applies to those that live here and has recently been extended to those who work within the Lurgan area. Please contact our office to check if you are within our common bond.
