Lurgan Credit Union Limited has one of the busiest foreign exchange services in Lurgan. It offers members foreign currency commission free. This service is available to ALL members on presentation of a passbook.

There are a few question members regularly ask in relation to our foreign currency facility, these are:

How much notice do I have to give when ordering foreign exchange?

During the summer months (June – September) we require ONE WEEKS NOTICE when ordering currency, including Euro and US Dollars. We will try to  facilitate members who have not ordered, but priority will be given to those who order, so to avoid disappointment order your currency in advance.

For all other currencies orders will be required ALL YEAR. Please help us to help you by ordering these currencies a week in advance.

What currencies are available?

At Lurgan Credit Union we will endeavour to get the currencies our members require. It may not always be possible to obtain them; in this case we will suggest an alternative. For other currencies we will require an order at all times of year as we do not hold a stock of these currencies, these include: –

We require one weeks notice in order to obtain any currency other than Euro and United States Dollars.

When I order currency do I get it at the rate on the day I order or the day I collect?

You receive the rate for your currency on the day you collect and NOT the day it is ordered.

Can I transfer money to another country? How much will it cost to do so?

Yes – we have the facility to transfer money to other countries, this service is FREE to member of Lurgan Credit Union Limited. To be able to complete an international transfer to another country, you will need the following information:

  • The name and address of the person the money has to be transferred to.
  • The name and address of the bank or building society you want the money transferred to.
  • The Swift Code, Sort Code and Account No of the persons account and if possible an IBAN number.

When members have the required details they will need to visit the office and complete the necessary paperwork, this will enable us to carry out the transfer to the required country.

Do you sell Euro cheques at Lurgan Credit Union Limited? If so is there any charge?

Yes – we sell Euro cheques at our foreign exchange. There is a charge of £3.50 per Euro cheque. HOWEVER, this service is only available until the 3rd October 2019. From this date, we are unable to offer this service. Any cheques that were issued prior to this date will need to be lodged into a bank account within the next six months.

I have a foreign currency cheque. Am I able to lodge it into my account or get it changed?

Unfortunately, we are no longer able to offer this service to our members. We would suggest you contact your bank to see if they will be able to accept these.

I am a member of another Credit Union can I purchase Foreign Exchange at Lurgan Credit Union Limited?

No – Lurgan Credit Union Limited offers foreign exchange services to members ONLY, therefore it is not available to members of other Credit Unions.
