Supporting our community

Supporting Our Community

Lurgan Credit Union has been active in the community since 1963.

The Credit Union exists solely for the benefit of its members, not stock markets. We’re a not-for-profit, democratically run, financial cooperative. Our members are our owners and we’re fully regulated by the Prudential Regulation Authority and Financial Conduct Authority.

Support during Covid-19

Never has this community support been so important as it is during Coronavirus. And we are extremely grateful to all the charities and community groups that have been helping our community during these difficult times.

We realise how difficult it has been for charities and community groups to meet the increased demand for services. Because of this the Credit Union feels that it is very important that we continue to support local organisations.

The Board of Lurgan Credit Union will consider applications from Community based charity groups that have lost out due to the lack of fundraising opportunities, within our Common Bond.

To apply for funding, please complete the application form below and return to the credit union office or email the completed form to manager@lurgancu.com:

PETPAD – Application form

Promotion, Education, Training, Planning and Development (PETPAD)

Our PETPAD scheme is designed to raise the profile of Lurgan Credit Union, bringing more benefits to more members.

This is achieved in a number of ways, such as direct advertising, activity sponsorship, attendance at local events, seeking coverage and support in local and social media.

Any community-based club, group or initiative may apply to the credit union for support through PETPAD, with a high chance of receiving support. In return, we ask for help to promote the credit union in the community.

Recently this has included sponsoring sports events, youth clubs and playgroups, school-based initiatives, cross community groups, individuals and various charitable organisations such as the local St Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army and the Southern Area Hospice.

In return for sponsorship, we ask that the Credit Union’s profile within the community is maintained through display of our logo on sports kits, event programmes, through local press coverage of presentation ceremonies etc.

School events

Lurgan Credit Union already has 4,000 junior members. They’ve saved £4m with us. Research shows that habits developed during childhood continue into adulthood and become self-reinforcing. To encourage more young people to save, we run poster competitions and school quizzes.
